Abstract:
In this paper, the necessary condition for surface crack formmation during the axisymmetric forward extrusion have been derived by using the upper-bound approach. Moreover. the relationships between the surface crack formation during extrusion and reduction in area, friction factor. relative original height of billet, or land length of punch are computed. Therefore. whether the surface crack may occur can be predicted before forward extruding the lower plasticity metals. The theorical results agree well with experimental results.
