Abstract:
Porthole die extrusion has an obvious great advantage in producing hollow sections of Al alloy tubes com- pared with the traditional extrusion methods.The Al alloy tube was simulated from dividing-welding-extrusion forming based on FEA code DEFORM-3D using FEM.The deformation mesh and the strike-load curve were obtained.Mean- while,aiming at the porthole die's high deformation resistance,the die stress was analyzed.This could predict the pos- sible die invalidation during extrusion.Die stress analysis results show that large deformation and stress concentration occur at the portholes and the die core,which leads to wear and tear easily.In order to enhance porthole dies' service life,it is necessary to pay attention to these places when design porthole dies.The simulation results provide theoreti- cal instruction for mould design and selection of technological parameters.
