Title:Study on fracture deformation during cropping stainless steel bar by hot skew rolling

Abstract:
Hot skew rolling is a new and advanced method which can be used for cropping stainless steel bar based on the technology of skew rolling. In the forming process the metal flow and deformation of rolled piece in the cropped fracture section is fierce, and the deformation of cropped fracture has a direct and important influence on the quality of cropped stainless steel bar. By studying the forming process of cropping stainless bar with the method of FEM and rolling experiments, the forming processes of cropping fracture and cone angle on the end surface of fracture section were analyzed. The results show that the metal flow and deformation of cropping fracture section start from inside to outside layer-by-layer, and bigger tensile stress and strain appear in the center of connected part. In the meantime the smaller the cone angle on the end surface of cropped fracture section is, the more difficult its forming is, and the more obvious the depression on the cropped fracture section is. When the cone angle designed is 5°, the overall deformation of it is basically complied with the design requirements. When the cone angle is smaller than 5°, the deformation of it is obviously difficult because of the serious depression on the cropped fracture section.
