Title:Analysis on carburizing and quenching process and contact fatigue of helical gear

Abstract:
The carburizing and quenching process of gear was researched, and a new method with carburization, precooling quenching, high-temperature tempering, secondary quenching and low-temperature tempering was carried out. On this basis, a helical gear finite element model was established, and with the model, finite element analysis on the contact fatigue life was carried out by using AWE Fatigue module. And it is found that most of the contact fatigue safety factors of the driving gear are between 3 and 4, fatigue safety factors of the driven gear are between 2.5 and 4, and the minimum safety factor in each gear appears at the meshing upmost position near the tooth-tip. The results of analysis indicate that the helical gear produced by this carburizing and quenching process is in safe operation within designed life. Research on contact fatigue analysis of helical gear has a reference on the preventing the contact failure of gear surface.
