Abstract:

Local surface defects frequently occur in the springback stage after stamping for automobile exterior panel, the depth of which is ranging from dozens of micron to hundreds of micron, and have a profound influence on the exterior quality of the whole automobile. It always takes huge amount of time to improve the surface quality at the tryout stage especially the local surface defects around the door handle. FEM simulation of front exterior door at the drawing stage was conducted using Autoform software. The predicted results were in good agreement with the whetstone grinding. Predicting the surface local defects around the door handle could be well realized by simulation. The influence of die surface compensation on the local surface defects around the door handle was studied by changing the nodes of the die surface and applying both two-dimension curvature and three-dimension surface methods. Results show that the area size and the severity of local defects can be effectively decreased by die surface compensation.
