Abstract:

Based on the mechanical clinching technology, a Steel/CFRP joining process of local hot stamping forming was proposed for Steel/CFRP hybrid materials, and the Steel/CFRP joint of plain type and Steel/CFRP joints with additional geometrical features such as rectangular grooves, arc grooves, distributed cylindrical dents and distributed hemispherical dents etc. were designed. Then, the influences of effective bond length, various additional geometrical features, dimensions and distributions on Steel/CFRP joint performance were studied by the Hashin damage criteria, cohesive model and a series of CAE simulation tests. Comparing the simulation results with the tension shearing tests, the large error was mainly caused by the ideal interface hypothesis used in CAE models, the ignored adhesive properties and the stress redistribution of interfaces locally formed. Thus, the Steel/CFRP joint performance could be improved by optimizing the parameters of additional geometrical features and the conditions of joining process to promote the production of an ideal bonding interface and mechanical interlocking on Steel/CFRP joints.
