Abstract:

The heat-extruded aluminum alloys 5154 rods were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) techniques, microhardness and tensile tests, and the influence of extrusion process on the mechanical properties of the alloy was studied. The results show that the microstructure and performance of the bar under different extrusion ratios have obvious differences. The sample grains of small extrusion ratio are significantly refined, and the <111> silk texture is preferentially formed arrangement parallel along the extrusion direction (ED) . Therefore, excellent tensile properties are showed. But the size and distribution of the sample grains with large extrusion ratio become uneven, and EBSD results show that the extruded structure do not appear texture at this time. Furthermore, coarse as-cast structure in large extrusion ratio specimen prone to uneven deformation, severe local structure deformation, secondary recrystallization, abnormal grain growth, which lead to poor mechanical properties.
