Abstract:

 Combining with the influence function method and the strip element variation method, the simulation tool of roll system and strip deformation in the rolling process was developed, and the end contour of backup roll was optimized and designed as the power function curve based on the above tool. Then, the influences of three main parameters for the power function curve on the strip edge thinning amount and the front tension difference were investigated, and the best parameter combination of power function curve was determined as follows: xL=250 mm, ΔR=4.0 mm, α=0.2. Furthermore, in order to confirm the actual use effect of the backup roll, it was placed in the fourth-stand of the cold tandem rolling mill five-stands, and the actual production data were used for computational simulation and experimental verification. The results show that compared with the flat end backup roll, using the backup roll with curved end cannot only improve the thickness difference and the plate shape, but also greatly reduce the bending force of work roll and facilitate the stability of rolling mill operation.
