Close die forging process has become a trend for applying precision plastic forming. Traditional die forgings are of low efficiency and high cost when they are applied to complex shaped components, such as long rod differential case. It is also hard to maintain the product quality. A kind of improved precision close die forging process optimized by finite element method was introduced. Compared with the traditional die forging and some other close die forging methods, a good solution for filling the rod,minimizing machining allowance,etc., was obtained. It is proved that by using this process, the products with high quality and burrfree are got during volume production.
