The forming mechanism of the side separation defect for thin cold-rolled substrate plate SPHC was analyzed by OM, SEM and EDS, and the defect morphology, composition, microstructure, metal flow line, rolling equipment and technology were analyzed comprehensively. The results show that the side flanging of thin plate directly leads to the separation defects in the sixth pass during the finishing rolling process. Because the thin plate deviates seriously from the center line during the rolling process, and collides with the side guide plate of worn grooves, and then the bending upwards of thin plate along the groove inner edge forms the side flanging of thin plate. Finally, the defect is removed successfully by avoiding serious deviation of thin plate and heavy wear of side guide after adopting the measure.
