Abstract:
Using closed die upsetting process to manufacture thick wall tubes on normal hydraulic press may cause the dis uniformity of the thickness along the length of the tube.In this paper,a new process of using floating dies was introduced.The forming process and die structure were given.Using the rigid plastic finite element method,both the new process and the conventional process were simulated on the computer workstation.The comparison of the simulated results for the two processes shows that the thickness of the tube obtained by the new process is more uniform than that by the conventional process.The experimental research was also carried.The experimental result has a good agreement with the simulation result.
