Abstract:
Semi-solid forming is a new metal forming technology between conventional diecasting and forging.With an aim to solve the long-term existing problem of the cracks in flow-front during thixo-forging,a new theory of constant volume flux of slurry was put forward in optimizing die design.Two kinds of experiments of semi-solid step-extrusion and die-upsetting were carried out with flat-forging die and angled forging die from die optimization.The experimental results show that the flow-fronts with better quality can be achieved by using the optimized forming die from constant volume flux of slurry.Therefore,the theory of constant volume flux of slurry can provide an important guidance for the quality improvement in products from thixo-forging.
