Abstract:
Tube hydroforming is a process to manufacture lightweight components, especially automotive parts, with advantages of cost and weight reduction, better structural integrity and increased strength and stiffness over the conventional process. For hydroforming a Y-shape tube, ratio of left axial feed and the right has a remarkable impact on the forming process due to non-symmetric structure. The effect of this ratio on thickness distribution and forming defect was investigated through experiments and numerical simulation. The results show that after forming the left fillet transition region is the thickest, the right is thicker and the top of the protrusion is the thinnest. It can reduce the thinning tendency through increasing the ratio of axial feed. However,an excessive ratio of axial feed will lead to dimpling and even wrinkling.A reasonable ratio zone of axial feed for hydrforming Y-shape tube is confirmed.
