Abstract:

This paper summarizes the development of finite-element analysis (FEA) and reviews the worldwide research and application of numerical simulation in cold forming field. Primarily discusses the use of finite element method (FEM) for die stress/strain analysis and optimum tool geometry and dimensional accuracy. It is showed that by using FEM for die stress and strain analysis when the die is regarded as an elastic body, we could improve and optimize the die design. And by FEM analysis we could get great effect in developing dies, such as prolong life of die, shorten period of die development, lower cost of die development and improve quality of product, etc. At last, outlines the deficiency of research and application of FEM in die analysis and puts forward the developmental trends of FEM analysis in the future.
