Abstract:
The die profile of extrusion processes was represented by two different methods that are cubic-spline curve and Bezier curve. The objective of this study was to design the optimal die profile that can yield more uniform surface-load distribution on die profile surface. Updated SQP (Sequential Quadratic Programming) method had been utilized to the optimum calculation based on the rigid-viscoplastic FEM (Finite Element Method). The optimal curved die profile was generated by two different methods. Moreover, the finite element code MARC was used to compare with each other and numerical simulation. It reveals that two methods are viable and effective. It is demonstrated that the discussed approach to improve the die life is quite effective.
