Abstract:

U-bending process of aluminium foam sandwich (AFS) was studied. Major deformation defects of AFS forming, such as the specimen lateral foam extrusion, the delamination between panel and foam core, shear stress cracks of foam core, the tensile stress cracks of foam core and the excessive thinning of panels were analyzed synthetically by using experiments and plastic mechanics theory. And the deformation mechanism of AFS defects was studied also. Variable blank holder force(VBHF)control method was proposed by deformation analysis. The forming depth increases from 23.1 mm to 40 mm by three stage VBHF control, which has a good effect on promoting the forming limitation and the quality of AFS.
