Abstract：

The tarpaulin guard iron of railway wagon is a typical stamping parts of complex structure and high quality made of medium thickness plate. On the base of theoretical calculation and analysis，the optimization of stamping process design could increase the service performance and manufacturing ability of the tarpaulin guard iron. The structure and operation process of cutting and forming compound die was described in details. It is proved that the die is simple, easy, safe, reliable and qualified by the production practice. Tens of thousands of tarpaulin guard irons have been produced by the die. The economic benefits are excellent.
