In the course of multistage forging for producing gear blank, the pre-forging design of gear blank directly affects metal flowing patterns of the finish forging, the situation of the forging die cavity, the quality of the products and die life. Using BP neural network with the feature of processing highly nonlinear problems, the network model between the size parameters of pre-forging and forming force and maximum die stress of finish forging was established. And then, by using Genetic Algorithm with the function of overall situation optimization, the most superior shape and size parameters of pre-forging were proposed.
