Abstract:

According to the geometry feature of hollow cylindrical helical gear, the closed die forging with inside relief and forward extrusion process of hollow billet were investigated using numerical simulation software Deform-3D. The effect of die entering angle on the forward extrusion process was also studied. The results show that forward extrusion process is more reasonable compared to the closed die forging scheme by analyzing the forging load and profile accuracy.  The best entering angle of die suitable for the forging of hollow helical gear is 80°, at which the filling of die cavity is perfect and the satisfied teeth shape can be obtained. The study could provide reference for the further study of precision forging process for hollow cylindrical helical gear.
