Abstract:

Multi-directional free forging process of high strength aluminum alloy thick plates and its microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated by numerical simulation and experiments. The process is of three-times upsetting, two-times drawing and forming operations and four-times upsetting, three-times drawing and forming operations.  The numerical simulation and experiment results show that when the forging ratio of four-times upsetting and three-times drawing is 4.52 greater than that in three-times upsetting and two-times drawing, the values of equivalent strains is 3.8-4.0 bigger; second phases are smaller and more dispersion; grains are smaller and more uniform; mechanical properties are higher and nearly the same in the three directions.
