Abstract:

For problems of the easy broken of sheet metal parts and the uneven thickness in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) incremental forming, a determination method of the model posture in CNC incremental forming based on the STL (S Tereo Lithography) model was proposed. After screening the triangular facets by different forming angles, using the relationship between the thickness of the sheet metal parts and the forming angles, and calculating the difference of forming angle of triangular facets quantificationally to determine the rotation angles of the model that rotating the X-axis and Y-axis, the model posture of sheet metal part was adjusted to ensure the minimum difference of forming angles between triangular facets and to realize the even thickness in sheet metal parts. The application examples of algorithm show that the thickness distribution becomes more even and small thickness differences are obtained after adjusting the model posture. As a result, the decreasing amplitude of thickness difference is 0.413 mm.
