Abstract:
Multi-point composite incremental forming (MPCIF) has advantages of uniform deformation, high formability, high forming efficiency, effective inhibition on instability, and so on. Based on 3D finite element analysis model of MPCIF, the MPCIF process of the typical truncated pyramid-shaped work-pieces made by different size tools was simulated and analyzed, and the influences of different size tools on equivalent plastic strain, forming precision and thickness reduction ratio of deformed parts were studied. The comparative analysis of simulation results show that the smaller is tool head size, the more serious is the thickness thinning of plates that are prone to cracking easily. In contrast, the bigger is the tool head size, the more uniform is the wall thickness, and the better is the shape accuracy, however, the equivalent plastic strain is higher in flange area that is prone to producing wrinkles easily.
