Abstract:

In order to solve the unfilled branch in forging process of fuel injector bodies with a long branch, a technology of local bulgingpreforging with controlled flowfinal forginghot trimming was put forward. Initial blank size with Φ32 mm in diameter and 161 in length was determined by the structure analysis method, and the feasibility of the forming technology was tested by FEM and experiments. The results show that the metal flow is controlled by the flow control slot in the preforging of the new technology. Comparing with normal forming, more metal materials are gathered into the branch cavity without increasing the billet size,and the long branch is filled completely in the final forging process. Thus, the wellshaped products can be forged successfully.
