Title:Influence of roller number on quality of cylinder parts in roll extrusion forming

Abstract:

 In order to study the influence of roller number on the surface quality of cylinder parts with rotary curved shape, the roll extrusion forming processes with two rollers, three rollers and four rollers were simulated by software Deform3D. The results show that with the increasing of roller number, in the same plane, the distance between roller edge and circular arc center of groove becomes shorter, the speed of roller edge is closer to the speed of circular arc center of groove, the metal deformation is more synchronous, and the deformation is more uniform. After the first roll extrusion with two rollers, the mouth of workpiece is extremely uneven, and the metal fills the flash groove and then flows into the roll gap to form a thin flash edge, which is folded during shaping. However, the roll extrusion with three rollers and four rollers are relatively flat, the metal does not fill the groove and does not flow into the roll gap. After the second roll extrusion with three rollers and four rollers, folding and cracking do not appear. During the roll extrusion with three rollers, the metal flows into the flash groove with the least volume, 〖JP3〗so the length of workpiece is the longest after roll extrusion. With the increasing of roller number, the radial force acting on rollers tends to decrease, and the force acting on four rollers is the smallest.
