Abstract:

 For the problems of severe wear and insufficient service life for punch of flash trimming during the multi-station cold heading process of large flange nut, the numerical simulation analysis was conducted by software Deform-3D. Based on the actual process, a finite element model of flash trimming was established. Meanwhile, the material flow stress model, fracture model and punch wear model were constructed, and the reliability of the models were verified by the simulation results. The influence of key process parameters on the wear of punch was analyzed,and combining with the orthogonal experimental design, the wear conditions of punch under different parameter combinations were studied. The range analysis results show that the optimal process parameters are the punch cone angle of 6°, the slope angle of 20°, the fillet radius of R0.6 mm, the cone diameter of Φ10.9 mm, the punching clearance of 0.10 mm and the punching speed of 15 mm·s-1, at this time,the wear depth of punch is the least.The simulation and production test results show that the optimized punch significantly improves the service life while ensuring the quality of inner hole, and the simulation results are in good agreement with the test results.
